National Volunteer Week 2025

National Volunteer Week 2025

It's National Volunteer Week and we want to give a shout out to the 16, yes 15 volunteers that run our meat and 50/50 draws every week.

Our volunteers generally work two draws per month but this varies depending on who is available. Working as a team, each person has a specific duty depending on whether they are selling the 50/50 tickets, meat draw tickets or taking the cash.

There are two weekly draws: Friday's at 5 and 6 pm and Sunday's at 4 and 5 pm. Each draw features 4 meat packages, with a bonus package after the final draw.

All monies raised are used by the branch to assist veterans and our community.

Remember, you need to be a Legion member or signed in by a member to enjoy our events and draws.

Join our Legion, support veterans.

This could be on our East Wall

East Wall Mural Mock-Up

East Wall Mural Mock-Up

This could be on our East Wall

Many Legions use an external wall to present an act of Remembrance in the form of a mural. We would very much like to be one of those Legions too.

We previously posted about the review of draft artwork and now there's a mock up of what could adorn our east facing wall. It's in the Legion Lounge for Members to view.

At our next General Meeting on Sunday 23rd March, we will be asking for Members agreement to commission the artwork. If agreed, when we have full approvals, the work will commence.

We’re Planning a Mural

We're Planning a Mural

We want to  transform the wall on the eastern side of the building with a Remembrance tribute.
Working with local businesses, B Line Design and S.L Creations, members of the Executive gave their feedback on draft designs. The preferred design is being updated for a second review and we'll bring you more news as the project progresses.

Commonwealth day 2025

On the second Monday in March we celebrate Commonwealth Day.

The theme for 2025 is ‘Together We Thrive’, and celebrates the enduring spirit of the Commonwealth family – 56 independent member countries united by shared values enshrined in the Commonwealth Charter.

Rooted in the principles of family, unity and peace, the theme highlights the importance of fostering strong and connected communities that support and empower their members, enabling meaningful progress.

At Maple Ridge Legion, we aim to foster strong connections with our Veterans and local communities.

International Women's Day

It’s International Women’s Day

It’s a global day to recognize and celebrate women’s and girls’ social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. It’s also a time to highlight the progress made in advancing women’s rights and the ongoing efforts needed to ensure their full participation in all aspects of society.

The Canadian Encyclopedia also has a good article on women in the Canadian Armed Forces - serving since 1885.

World Hearing Day

World Hearing Day

It’s World Hearing Day.

By encouraging individuals to recognize the importance of ear and hearing health, World Hearing Day aims to inspire people to change behaviour to protect their hearing from loud sounds and prevent hearing loss, check their hearing regularly, use hearing devices if needed, and support those living with hearing loss. Empowered individuals can drive change within themselves and in society at large.

Veterans Affairs Canada has more information and, remember that Branch Service Officers along with Provincial Command support are also there to help Veterans navigate claims.
