Oh, and we have a special meet draw as well - The 12 Turkeys of Christmas.

International Volunteer Day

International Volunteer Day

Maple Ridge Legion Ladies Auxiliary
The Maple Ridge Legion, Ladies Auxiliary (L.A.) Executive Board

Today, December 5th is International Volunteer Day. It’s a day that recognizes the efforts of volunteers in transforming their societies, economies, and environment.

We want to give a shout out to a group of ladies in our Legion that through their volunteering make a difference to both the Branch and the local community.

The Ladies Auxiliary has been serving up perogies for over 15 years and cabbage rolls for about 6 years. The ladies organize celebrations of life, Christmas bakes sale and weekly meat draws. The money raised supports Legion members and the community at large.

We'll be telling you more about our L.A in the next newsletter, but for now, let's simply celebrate what they bring to our Branch.

When you see a Ladies Auxiliary member, please thank them for all they do. They truly make a difference.

PADS - Legion Litter

PADS Legion Litter

PADS Legion Litter

PADS - Legion LitterPacific Assistance Dogs (PADS) is having a contest to name their next litter of dogs. As our Legion Branch has previously supported their PTSD Service Dog Program, we want to you to get creative and help us submit names to PADS for the new litter due in January 2025.

What we need from you

Please submit up to 3 names by email to the Legion Office by December 10th.

Each Legion Branch can submit up to 3 names so we'll select our favourites and submit them to PADS.

Here is what PADS has asked us to consider for names:

  • Be either gender-appropriate or gender-neutral; list them by:
    • Male, female, or either
  • Names should be easy to say/call out and no more than 3 syllables (1 or 2 syllables is ideal)
  • We encourage you to do the “intro test” by going through your suggested names with someone who hasn’t heard them before, saying, “This is my dog ____.” If they appear confused, shocked, or ask you to repeat the name, it’s best left off your list.
  • Be politically correct and culturally sensitive.
  • Avoid common human names where possible (placing a dog named Bob would limit placement options if we have 3 applicants with the same name).

So, get your thinking caps on and get those suggestions into the Legion Office by email by December 10th.

It has been pointed out that a member of our Colour Party wore inappropriate medals during this Remembrance Day Parade. Our Seargeant at Arms was unable to be present for the Parade due to mobility issues but was at our Legion. As soon as the medals were seen by the Sergeant at Arms, the Colour Party member was instructed to remove them and never to wear them when representing our Legion. We do not tolerate stolen valour and this issue was dealt with on the same day.
